MBC-UMRA Fort Loop Ride 4/16/2024 Report

Post event report:

4 riders gathered at Silver Park on this cool and windy afternoon with minimal potential for precipitation. We met the challenge of the 13 to 18 mile an hour wind predominately from the west. We followed the proposed route contending with the headwind on the outbound especially riding the Post Siding Rd. into Fort Missoula. We were greatly appreciative of the tail wind on 7th St. and as we rode the Milwaukee Trail back to Silver Park. All riders completed the ride safely with no mechanical or other difficulties.

Distance: ~11.17 miles, Moving time 1hr. 2 min. Elevation: 111 ft. Statistics via Strava and GPS tracking.

Pre-ride information:

Welcome to the 4th 2024 MBC-UMRA Ride

Given the current long range (as of 4/11) weather forecast for, Tuesday, 4/16, with a high of 45, 49% likelihood of precipitation, and 11 MPH wind out of the WNW. This will be a day to check back to confirm that this ride will happen. If the weather cooperates this will be an afternoon ride beginning at 1:30 PM in Silver Park. If Tuesday continues to look very unpleasant for a ride, this ride may be rescheduled for Thursday 4/18 with the same starting time.

A preliminary plan for our route for this ride would begin with a ride south on the Bitterroot Trail to Post Siding Rd. and into the Fort Missoula Regional Park for a brief stop. From the Fort we would make our way to Clements Rd. via North Ave. thus beginning our fairly familiar Fort Loop. This route is primarily on paved multi-use trails with some bike lane on street riding and one short single track that can be avoided by any riders who prefer to not ride the dirt single track. During the 4/9 ride we discovered that sections of the single track had been filled with wood shavings.

If you have any suggestions for future rides for this primarily Tuesday biking group, please let me know by entering it on the "Propose a Ride" page and indicate that you would like someone else to lead. Also, if you would be interested in leading or co-leading any of the future MBC-UMRA Tuesday rides, you can submit your interest on our "Propose a Ride" page.

Any cancellation/postponement of this ride will be posted here and a cancellation email will be sent out not later than 11:00 AM on Tuesday 4/16, to all who have RSVP'd. Always dress appropriately for your comfort. If you RSVP early and decide not to ride you may cancel your reservation anytime before the ride.

While this ride is targeted towards UM Retirees, it is open to all MBC members. Please remember that this will be a slow to moderate pace with the potential of only one moderate hill, the Reserve St overpass. Please RSVP if you’re considering joining the ride so that you will be provided the leader's contact information and can be informed of any late-breaking changes (e.g., weather or smoke related cancellation).
